This columnist states that the iPhone marks the beginning of a "new era" of media.
Is this hype? Maybe we'll have to wait and see (is Seth in line already?)

I must admit the phone is VERY cool. There are a couple of things that I would change, but overall it is cool. I do wonder though if it is redundant to have the last generation of iPod and then have this?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new toy, oops... I mean serious work related piece of technology. There are, indeed, things I would love the change on it, but nonetheless it's a great start, and better than my current palm-pilot and cell phone. The network (AT&T) stinks for data (EDGE is s l o w) but with regard to "convergence" (as said revolution) I'm vacillating... I can't decide... is something convergent simply because it's been aggregated by a device? I mean most phones will allow you to read "standard" email, see photos, and even surf (at least a portion) of the web... but those things are still separate... the device (and it's controller) are what are making them "converge" so it that convergence? or just aggregation? I don't know if I am completely making sense or not, but I feel like simply pulling stuff together -- without much extra though or preparation -- is not convergence, but that's all many handheld devices do.
